The Albrecht Kemper Museum of Art is preparing for what has become one of its largest fundraisers, seeking artists to participate in the annual Bad Art by Good People fundraiser.
The fundraiser pairs six to 10 people from the community each with a local artist, to create a piece that will go on display to be voted on. Each vote for a piece will raise money for the museum, and at the end of the event the artwork will also be auctioned to raise money for the Albrecht Kemper as well.
Director Eric Fuson says this event has turned into a favorite every year at the museum.
"Because we get to really engage with some of these people who don't think they're artists, but kind of have a little oh you know I'll give it a try," Fuson says on the KFEQmunnity show. "I hear from them constantly this was so much fun, I think I'm going to keep doing it, so it's amazing how kind of addictive it can be once you start in and say I really can do this."
Artists will work on their pieces from now until September 8th. After September 8th, community members will be able to vote online, through $1 donations for their favorite pieces.
Fuson says this has become one of the top four fundraisers for the museum over its time.
"It's growing slowly but surely," Fuson explains. "It was something that we talked to with a group in Chilicothe that was putting it on, and we loved the name, we loved the concept, and we said is it ok if we do that and they said absolutely, and I said well we want to steal the name to and they said oh please do, because they understand from the front lines of how it worked and that it was very succesful and they were very generous in saying yeah please take it and run with it a little bit, and we've been super happy with it."
This year's event is filling up with limited spots, but if you are interested you can contact Madison McKinley at the museum to get onto a list to participate in future events.
"When I first put the call out about a month ago, I had a lot of emails and phone calls and people reaching out to me," McKinley says. "And it was just really refreshing and nice to see how many people in the community wanted to participate in something like that."
A cocktail party will conclude the event on October 8th at the museum which will celebrate the artists and the participants. During the cocktail party, the auction will b held to benefit the museum, and the team with the most community votes will be recognized.
