The City of Saint Joseph officially broke ground on the new South Side Fire Station 10 at 303 East Hyde Park Drive Tuesday.
The new station was described with amenities to improve firefighter safety and training. It's a drive-through design, allowing for easy and quicker deployment during emergency response. In addition, decontamination spaces, living and eating spaces, a sauna and workout area, and training spaces.
Construction is currently expected to be completed late fall or early winter of 2027, to the tune of $6.2 million. The station will replace the function of the more than 100-year-old firehouse at 101 Illinois Avenue.
The Chief White Cloud statue formerly located in the fire station's space will be moved to a new area further north.
