St. Joseph man charged in New Year's Day homicide

A second-degree murder charge has been filed in that fatal shooting two hours into New Year’s Day in St. Joseph.

Nicholas Minear, Jr. of St. Joseph, an 18-year-old, has been charged in the shooting death of 55-year-old Larry McClain.

The probable cause statement claims Minear fired a weapon from his car into an occupied residence in the 1100 block of Randolph Street around 2 a.m. on the 1st. A bullet struck McClain in the neck, killing him.

Minear is scheduled to appear in Buchanan County Court tomorrow morning.
