Seth Lugo went the distance throwing his first career complete game helping the Royals to a series sweep over Chicago with a 4-1 win on Sunday.

Kansas City fell behind in the sixth inning as Lugo gave up a run in the sixth inning as Tommy Pham singled to score former Royal Nicky Lopez, but the Royals would tie the game in the seventh on a sacrifice bunt from Kyle Isbel that brought in Maikel Garcia.

Hunter Renfroe gave the Royals the lead in the eighth inning, singling with runners on the corners to score Bobby Witt Jr.  Garcia would extend the lead driving in Drew Waters and in the next at bat Darion Blanco would single to score Renfroe for a three run frame.

The White Sox struggled to figure out Lugo all game, only managing three hits, striking out six times and getting no walks. Lugo needed just 103 pitches to get through the nine innings.

It was the Royals’ first nine-inning complete game with one or fewer runs allowed since Brad Keller shut out the Pirates on Sept. 13, 2020.

The Royals will now host the Arizona Diamondbacks for a three game series starting on Monday.  Cole Ragans will open the series for Kansas City against Yilber Diaz for the Diamondbacks.  First pitch is at 7:10pm with pregame at 6:30 on KFEQ.
