Lloyd Mairs, 95, was welcomed into the arms of his Lord and Savior and reunited with his beloved wife on Wednesday, March 4, 2026.
It is with heavy hearts, yet thankful and grateful spirits, that we share the death of this wonderfully kind Husband, Father, Granddad and Oh Yeah:
Lloyd Edward Mairs.
Lloyd was born on December 16, 1930 in Kansas City, KS to William and Orpha Mairs; rounding out their family to five with an older sister and brother, Alice & Karl.
Lloyd, a Delta Chi, earned a track scholarship in high hurdles to Washburn University where he met the love of his life.
Lloyd became a believer at a Mervin Rosell outreach. He felt the Spirit moving him to respond and he pledged his heart to the Lord during an altar call and went on to lead his wife to the Lord before they were married. He married Marjorie Carolyn Hite on June 7, 1953 in her hometown of Hiawatha, KS. Lloyd joined the US Navy on July 13, 1953, achieved the rank of Lieutenant Junior Grade and was discharged from active duty on August 10, 1957.
As a supportive husband, Lloyd consistently demonstrated his good nature, agreeability, and unwavering moral character. He set an example of a husband who loved his wife and led his family in accordance with biblical principles. Lloyd embodied the relationship goals that were highly regarded and something to which we all aspire.
Lloyd was a wonderful father to his five daughters, always ready with a kind word and a generous compliment. His quick wit kept the household lively. While watching a particularly funny show, he would often laugh so quietly that the entire couch would shake from his mirth.
People often asked Dad how he got along living in a house with five daughters and a wife! He was always content to be a great listener and let the women dominate the conversation. He used to say, “I can hardly get a word in edgewise!”
In 2016, a stroke gradually eroded Dad’s memory. Mom skillfully concealed his condition, and since Dad had a knack for bluffing, it wasn’t until much later that his family and friends realized the extent of his decline.
When Mom passed away we had the incredible privilege of caring for him and spending one on one time with him. It was a time we didn’t expect, and we all treasure it! As a family we are grateful we had the opportunity to care for Lloyd and give him our devoted love and attention.
Lloyd remained very content and ever thankful for the care given him in those last years. Almost nightly he would take a hand, look into the eyes of the daughter on duty that day and say, “Thank you for taking such good care of me!”
When anyone told him, “I love you,” he would say, “I love you right back!”
Lloyd was very outgoing and treated everyone with warmth and a welcoming grin, handshake or hug.
Oh, how we will miss his hugs!
Lloyd was preceded in death by his devoted wife of 70 years, Marge and also his parents, brother and sister. Two infant brothers preceded him in death as well.
Lloyd left a legacy of faith and is survived by:

We love you Dad-
“No its, ants or uts.”
“See you around!”
“This is the day that the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it.”
-Psalm 118:24
We would like to thank Vitas, especially Julie and Mo, for the kind and compassionate care they provided, not just to Lloyd, but to all the sisters as well.
