Velma “Sis” Lykins, 97, Saint Joseph, Missouri, passed away Wednesday, December 11, 2024.
She was born in Saint Joseph, Missouri on March 30, 2024, to Rose (Mitchell) and Joseph T. Miller.
Velma's life was defined by the love she bore for her family and her zest for life.
Affectionately known to all as "Sis," she devoted much of her time enveloped in the joy of her grandkids, each of whom she held dearly in her heart. Her fondness for family extended to her siblings; many of her days were spent recounting cherished memories and creating new ones. Alongside family, Velma had a passion for sewing and crochet.
An endearing fan of "The Golden Girls", Velma's evenings were often spent with laughter as she indulged in sweets—the perfect accompaniment to her favorite network shows. Her warmth, compassion, and sincere camaraderie will be remembered by all who knew her as the family gathers to honor her legacy of love and kindness.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Lonnie Clayton Lykins; her daughter Mildred; and her grandson Lonnie.
Survivors include her daughter Joetta Thompson; grandchildren, Elmer, Gene and Sam; great-grandchildren, Britney, Tianna, Kassie, Whitnay, Katelyn, Kyle, Caylee, Linda and Krissie; and 22 great-great-grandchildren.
