Savannah voters give overwhelming approval to a one-percent sales tax increase for the Savannah Police and Fire Departments, but narrowly reject a 15-cent levy increase for the R-3 School District.

Unofficial results released by the Andrew County Clerk’s Office show 491 voters cast ballots Tuesday in favor of the one-percent police and fire tax with only 211 voting against the issue; nearly 70% casting ballots in favor of the tax hike. The school tax issue was very close. Unofficial results show 889 voting against the school tax levy with 861 voting in favor.

Clinton County voters approved a half-cent law enforcement sales tax increase with 946 voting in favor of the tax increase and 775 voting against it Tuesday.
