H. Ross Woodbury, 90, Saint Joseph, Missouri, passed away Friday, November 8, 2024.
He was born April 24, 1934, in Saint Joseph, Missouri to Herbert and Vera (Lamb) Woodbury.
Ross graduated from Central High School and from the University of Kansas, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Entomology. Ross dedicated many years to Woodbury Chemical and Woodbury Industries, contributing significantly to the company until his well-deserved retirement.
Family was an important part of Ross's life. He was a devoted father as well as a grandfather. Ross was also a proud great-grandfather to eight great-grandchildren.
Ross's commitment to his faith and community was evident through his longstanding membership at Wyatt Park Christian Church, where he formed many lasting friendships.
A celebrated figure in the St. Joseph business community, Ross led by example as the President of the St. Joseph Area Chamber of Commerce and demonstrated exceptional dedication as the Chairman of the St. Joseph Chamber of Commerce Economic Development Committee for many years. His visionary approach and tireless efforts were recognized when he was honored with the Governor Teasdale Award for his outstanding contributions toward the economic growth and prosperity of St. Joseph.
Throughout his career, Ross held numerous notable positions, including President of the Industrial Development Authority of St. Joseph, and he proudly served on the Board of Directors of the St. Joseph Belt Railway Company during its merger with Missouri Pacific Railroad. His leadership extended into various civic roles, such as President of Rotary Club #32, where he also served as a District Representative to Rotary International and was lauded as a Rotary Foundation Paul Harris Fellow.
Beyond the business realm, Ross was passionate about education and athletics, demonstrating his leadership as the Chairman of Citizens for Quality Education and as President of the Missouri Western Alumni Association. He was instrumental in chairing the renowned Bronco Baseball World Series, providing lasting memories and opportunities for the youth around the world.
He was passionate about the game of tennis. He played the game for 50 years and was a USTA certified umpire, umpiring tournaments at the professional level throughout the United States. He was also a wonderful piano player. He played throughout his lifetime and many people were fortunate to enjoy his music.
Ross Woodbury lived a life full of purpose and joy, touching the lives of those around him in profound ways. Ross's memory will be treasured forever by those who were fortunate enough to know him.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Alice Woodbury; his parents; and his son-in-law Robert Dodson.
Survivors include his children, Mark Woodbury (Karen), Cole Woodbury (Ingrid), and Traci Dodson; grandchildren, Robbie Dodson (Lindzy), Luke Dodson (Sarah), Kylie Dowell (Jason), Ross Woodbury (Amy), Nick Woodbury (Ryan Coleman), Alex Woodbury (Jordan Wallace), and Bailey Woodbury; great-grandchildren, Elliot Dodson, Joey Dodson, Avery Dowell, Owen Dowell, Archer Woodbury, Skyler Laun, Maddox Wallace, and Jamison Wallace; and his brother Reid Woodbury.
Farewell Services and Public Livestream 10:00 A.M. Friday, November 22, Wyatt Park Christian. Interment Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will gather with friends 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. Thursday, November 21, Meierhoffer Funeral Home & Crematory.
