Louis passed away Saturday, November 22, 2025 at the age of 74.
Louis was born in St. Joseph, Mo. He attended Immaculate Conception and Co-Cathedral grade schools, Central High School and Missouri Western State College. He married Melody (Berry) October 28, 1972. They resided in Helena, Mo on N.169 Hwy. for 34 yrs. They returned to St. Joseph in 2009.
Louis worked at Wire Rope Corporation for 30 yrs. He worked in the plant for 16 years, and the office for 14 yrs. He suffered from numerous back injuries and surgeries before retiring.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Melody, she survives of the home, son, Michael (Kate) Schaefer, daughter, Leah Garcia (Andy), and five grandchildren, Brittan, Brooklyn and Drexel Schaefer, Logan and Joseph Garcia. Additional survivors include sister, Norma (Dan) Norris brother, Chris (Darla) Schaefer, niece Karle (Joe Houghland), and nephews Brian (Marissa) Schaefer and Neil (Lauryn) Schaefer.
Louis was preceded in death by his brother Gary Schaefer, parents Eugene and Thelma (Gregory) Schaefer and in-laws, Drexel and Sarah (Fields) Berry.
Louis was a car enthusiast, a do-it-your-selfer and an excellent cook.
