Katherine (Kathy) Marie Shipman, 73, passed away peacefully at North Kansas City Hospice House on February 19, 2025. She was born on July 26, 1951 in Clinton, Iowa. She was the daughter of Earl Kinkaid and Marion Tufford Kinkaid.
Kathy graduated from Lawrence High School in 1969, and later moved to Chicago where she worked in the airline industry and met Jim. They were married nearly 52 years. Kathy later went on to nursing school to become a LPN. After receiving her nursing degrees she enjoyed working on Medic 50 and with pediatrics.
Kathy enjoyed quilting, sewing and ceramics. She also enjoyed traveling across the United States. Her other past times included watching her grandsons play various sports.
She was predeceased by her husband Jim.
Her survivors are David E. Shipman and his wife Michelle White Shipman, James E. Shipman and his wife Shelley Robinson Shipman, and her daughter Karen Shipman. She also has 4 grandsons, Jacob, Cole, Carson and Caleb, one brother Ray (Sam) Kinkaid, sister Carol (Brad) Baughan and sister Mary (C.L) Maurer. She also has many nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life will be April 4, 2025 at 1:30 pm at Leavenworth National Cemetery. There will be a small service in her honor. Those who wish to remember Kathy in a special way may make contributions to Children’s Mercy Hospital Kansas City. She will be laid to rest at Leavenworth National Cemetery beside her beloved husband Jim. Arrangements By: Vaughn Funeral Home-Weston, MO.
