Virginia "G-Ann" Woodbury 1938 - 2024

Virginia “G-Ann” Woodbury, 86, St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Saturday, June 1, 2024.

She was born March 26, 1938 in St. Joseph to Harold and Eulalia (Geiger) Petersen. She was a 1955 graduate of Central High School and then earned her bachelor’s degree in Business at Missouri Western.

Virginia married Reid Ames Woodbury on August 2, 1957. They shared a love story for nearly 67 years as a team, with Reid taking care of her in her final years.

After raising her sons, Virginia was instrumental in running the office for her husband’s contracting businesses and resort management in Colorado.

She was a member of the Institute of Management Accountants, Junior League, Downtown St. Joseph Sertoma Club, where she was president of the Sertoma Couples Club, board member of the Ladies Union Benevolent Association, and did data entry for the St. Joseph Museums. She also was named a volunteer of the year by the St. Joseph Rotary Club.

The Flood of 1993 spurred Virginia into action as a volunteer for the Red Cross. She spent the following 20 years as a disaster volunteer and was sent to many locations, including St. Croix, Guam and to New York City after 9/11. She won the Red Cross’ Clara Barton Award. Virginia and Reid were co-chairs of the capital campaign for the new Red Cross Headquarters in St. Joseph.

Virginia enjoyed skiing in Colorado, bicycling and fishing.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Survivors include her husband, Reid; sons, Reid Ames Woodbury, Jr. (Lee-Ann) of Tarzana, California, and Charles Edward Woodbury (Marsha) of Decatur, Alabama; and sisters, Janet Russell of Lake Ozark, Missouri, and Patricia Petersen of Durham, North Carolina.

The family will gather with friends 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. Thursday, June 13, Meierhoffer Funeral Home & Crematory.
