The Missouri Extension office is holding two different events this week celebrating farming and agriculture along with the people involved in the career field.
An event that will start in Buchanan County, but will also feature events across northwest Missouri, is the “Field to Consumer Farm Tours” which will kick off on Thursday morning from 9 to 11am at 1840 Cattle Co. in Gower, Missouri.
MU Extension Field Specialist in Agricultural Business and Policy Denice Ferguson says attendees will get a tour of the farm as well as the business operation of Beth and Jeff Gibson, the owners behind 1840 Cattle Co.
"I have heard that we're going to take a hay ride back yonder, maybe during feeding time I believe Elizabeth said, and its a small group series, we do have a limit of 20 people," Ferguson says on the KFEQmunnity show. "And our intention behind that is to keep it very conversational, we want to hear anything and everything that Elizabeth and Jeff will share with us about how they got started, why they got started, the pros, the cons, all the good stuff behind the scenes."
Ferguson says herself and others from MU Extension will also be on hand to be able to share resources with attendees that might be starting their own agriculture based ventures. Also on Thursday evening , in Maryville, Missouri Extension will host the annual Atchison, Holt, and Nodaway Counties Women in Ag event at Rose Hill Acres Event Center. “Strong Women, Strong Farms, Strong Futures” is the theme of this year’s program.
Ferguson says the event has rotated between the counties since it's inception between the three counties that is a great evening of fun and educational opportunities.
"Not only is there a silent auction and vendors, but there are educational booths, MU Extension will have a booth where we're sharing all our resources, and then all the USDA department folks are there with booths," Ferguson explains. "So, it's a great place to get facetime with all the resources."
The cost to attend is $5 per person which is payable at the door. The first 100 participants will receive a goody bag. Everyone is welcome to attend. Participants do not have to be from Atchison, Holt, or Nodaway counties, nor do they have to be involved in agriculture.
