Ruth M. Martin 1919 - 2024

Ruth M. Martin, 104, St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Thursday, July 25, 2024.

She was born on August 4, 1919, to Thomas and Bessie (Fischer) Krejci in Crete, Nebraska.

She graduated from Crete High School in 1937.

Ruth married Edgar E. Martin on August 16, 1942, in Chula Vista, California. During World War II, she worked at an airplane factory while in California. Her husband was stationed in San Angelo, Texas, for a time, and then their family relocated to St. Joseph, Missouri. They shared 56 years together before Edgar passed away in 1998.

During her lifetime, Ruth was an active member of various organizations. She was active in the Lindberg and Lafayette PTA, even serving as president, a Girl Scout leader, a board member of the St. Joseph Rainbow for Girls Assembly #12, member of the Grand Cross of Color, member and past president of the Social Order of Beauceants, and for 77 years she was a member of Areme Chapter OES; serving as worthy matron twice, district deputy grand matron and grand representative to Bolivia.

Ruth was of Christian faith and belonged to Marvin McMurry United Methodist Church until the doors were closed. She taught Sunday school, sang in the choir, helped with vacation bible school and served as alter guild president. She was also active in Church Women United.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas and Bessie; beloved husband, Edgar; brother, Rudolph Krejci; and sister, Dorothy Bozak.

Survivors include her daughters, Carol Duke (Larry) of Platte City, MO and Sandra Mann (Gary) of San Antonio, TX; three grandchildren, Paul Simms of LaDue, MO, Stacey Culpepper (Joel) of Round Rock, TX, and Sheryl Crump (Winston) of San Antonio, TX; five great-grandsons, Trey Simms, Collin Simms, Harrison King, Griffin Crump and Max Crump; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Farewell Services and Public Livestream 1:00 P.M. Tuesday, Meierhoffer Funeral Home & Crematory. Interment Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will gather with friends 6:00 – 8:00 P.M. Monday, Meierhoffer Funeral Home & Crematory.
