St. Joseph Post

A wildfire which began in the Bluffwoods Conservation Area south of St. Joseph spread over 10 to 15 acres before local firefighters could get it under control this morning.

Buchanan County Sheriff’s Deputies and firefighters responded to the fire before six o’clock.

Buchanan County Sheriff Bill Puett reports the fire consumed grass and brush, but didn’t damage any structures. The fire spread over Bluffwoods, which is run by the Missouri Department of Conservation, and onto an adjacent property owner. It is likely winds this morning helped spread the fire.

No cause has been determined.

DeKalb Fire and Faucett Fire crews join in the effort to get the fire under control.

The fire held up traffic for a while at the Warnick Road and State Route JJ intersection. That area is now open and traffic has returned to normal.
