Bettie Rosann Schwope, 87, of Atchison, KS died on Wednesday, May 3rd, 2023, at the Atchison Senior Village.
Mrs. Schwope was cremated, and the burial of her cremated remains will be at a later date in the Sumner Cemetery. In keeping with her wishes no memorial services or visitation will be held. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Sumner Cemetery and may be sent in care of the Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home who is handling the arrangements. Bettie R. Cook was born on June 29, 1935, in White Cloud, KS, the daughter of Eck and Julia (Taylor) Cook. She had attended Fanning Grade School, White Cloud Grade School, and White Cloud High School. She later attended the NEKS Area Vo-Technical School for Office Management Classes. She worked as an office assistant for the SRS office for over 28 years, retiring in 1997. Bettie enjoyed garage sales and auctions. She bought and sold antiques for many years.
Bettie was married to Theodore Simpson and later divorced. She was married to Kenneth Schwope and he preceded her in death in April 1999. Her companion Max Simpson preceded her in death in April 2005. Survivors include three grandchildren James Simpson, Milia Penrod, and Sarah Peterson, and four great grandchildren Drucilla, Sabastian, Rydia and Rogue. Her parents, two sons, Daniel and James Simpson, a daughter Alletta Peterson, two stepsons Roger and Richard Schwope, three brothers Fred, Elza and Benjamin Cook, and a granddaughter Marsha Simpson also preceded her in death.
