Northbound I-29 through St. Joseph has re-opened after construction crews completed painting on half of the Cook Road Bridge.

Southbound I-29 will close beginning Monday morning at 4am as crews with Clarkson Construction Company shift over to complete painting the reconstructed bridge.

Northbound I-29 had been closed this week as Clarkson put the finishing touches on the east portion of the bridge. Traffic had been re-routed at I-229.

Southbound I-29 will close beginning a four o’clock Monday as the west side of the bridge is painted. It is scheduled to re-open at 4am next Friday, reflecting the same schedule used when crews painted the east side of the bridge.

MoDOT states that during the closures, traffic will be directed on the same signed detour onto I-229 that was used earlier this summer. Southbound I-29 traffic must exit at I-29/I-229/U.S. Route 71 (EXIT 56B). Click HERE to view the detour map.

Local traffic will not be able to access I-29 at the following locations:

•           Southbound I-29 from:

o          Business Route 71/US. Route 59 – Exit 53

o          U.S. Route 169 (Rochester Rd) – Exit 50

The Cook Road Bridge rehabilitation project will replace the driving surface and add a pedestrian sidewalk to the south of the bridge. St. Joseph city officials allocated money to add decorative fencing and decorative concrete. The project is set to wrap up soon.
