Michael P. Smith, 58, St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Friday, July 7, 2023.
He was born August 2, 1964 in St. Joseph to Melvin and Patricia (Ingram) Smith. Mike grew up in St. Joseph and attended Central High School.
While working at auto parts stores and most recently at Redline Trailers, Mike was known around town as a helpful and friendly mechanic who would drop everything to come help anyone whose car had broken down. He had a passion for drag racing, going with friends and family to the Ice Cream Cruise every year.
Mike also coached various sports teams for his children and was a longtime member of Central Christian Church. He didn’t know a stranger. Everywhere he went someone always knew him. His family was his pride and joy, especially his grandsons. Mike touched many lives and will leave a big hole in our family.
He was preceded in death by his son, Dalton Lee Smith; his mother, Pat Smith; and his brother-in-law, John Schellhorn.
Survivors include his wife of 31 years, Maureen (DeHart) Smith; his children, Brandon Smith, Aaron Smith (Jacqueline Johnson), and Connor Smith (Kaitlyn); stepchildren, Amber Schubert (Charles) and Mitchell Schubert (Sara); two grandsons, Silas and Beckett Smith; his father, Melvin Smith; siblings, Tony Guskos (Tina), Jennifer Taylor, Shirley Schellhorn, Stephanie Smith, Corey Smith (Sharon), and Tracie Smith-Carpentier; numerous nieces, nephews, other extended family and friends.
Farewell Services and Public Livestream 10:00 A.M. Thursday, Central Christian Church. Interment Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will gather with friends 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. Wednesday, Meierhoffer Funeral Home & Crematory.
