Gerald Cooksey, 88, St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away on December 13, 2023. Born on August 3, 1935, in Forest City, Missouri, to Clarence D. and Retta (Brown) Cooksey.
Leaving behind a legacy of love and commitment, Gerald is survived by his wife of 69 years, Betty, and their children, Janet Lofton (Lamont), Darrell Cooksey (Gemma), David Cooksey (Patti), and Jean Shaw. Also survived by his 11 grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren, and a nephew. His life's journey was preceded by his parents and his brother, Ronnie Cooksey.
Gerald married the love of his life, Betty Joann Dougan, on August 1, 1954. His career with the Air National Guard as a Master Sergeant reflected his unwavering dedication to his nation's security and the well-being of his fellow servicemen and women.
He was an active member of the Lions Club and to the Church of Christ. Gerald also was as a scoutmaster and staff member at Camp Geiger when his children were in Boy Scouts. His passion for fishing and engaging in community service marked him as a man who not only enjoyed the serenity of nature but also the joy of giving back.
