Posted May 21, 2024 12:44 PM

Daniel M. Bloom, 73, passed away on May 18, 2024, in St. Joseph, Missouri. Born on September 13, 1950, in Freeport, Illinois, to LaVerne “Bunny” and Ruby J. (Newell) Bloom.

He shared a wonderful life with his wife, Gail A. (Peterson) Bloom, whom he married on August 27, 1977. Their love and friendship were the foundation of a close-knit family, including their children, Joy Houlihan (Tom), Amy Viner (Brian), Ross Bloom (Jamie), and the grandchildren who lit up his life, Brianna and Charlie Houlihan, and Owen, Dylan, and Aiden Viner. Daniel is also remembered by his sister, Linda Bloom.

Daniel is preceded in death by his parents and brother, William Bloom.

Daniel pursued his master’s degree with commendable dedication at St. Louis University, which steered him toward a 41-year career as a Meteorologist with the National Weather Service.

A man of faith and community, Daniel's involvement with the Knights of Columbus as a 4th-degree Knight who served on the honor guard and color guard was a testament to his steadfast values and service. His gentle spirit was exemplified by his joys: the simple pleasures of walking while saying his rosary, the selfless act of shopping for others with great generosity, and his love for cherishing nature through feeding birds and squirrels.

Mass of Christian Burial 10:00 A.M. Wednesday, Our Lady of Guadalupe. Interment Memorial Park Cemetery. Parish Rosary 5:00 P.M., Tuesday, Meierhoffer Funeral Home & Crematory. The family will gather with friends 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. Tuesday, Meierhoffer Funeral Home & Crematory.
