My Angel got her “Silver Wings” today. “Keep on Danc’n” Angel. Justina R. (Ritter) Sparks, 77, went to the open arms of God today October 20, 2024, at The Willow Home & Care Facility in Wathena, Kansas, where she had been living as a resident since February of 2023.
Justina was the daughter of William and Evalena (Engeman) Ritter. She was born on May 18, 1947, in St. Joseph, Missouri and grew up in Wathena. She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Thomas Ritter. She is survived by her husband Herman E. (Gene) Sparks, Merriam, Kansas and brother, Homer Ritter (Laurie) also of Merriam, Kansas.
Justina started her education at St. Joseph Catholic School and Wathena High School. She continued her education, attending Highland Community College. After Highland Community College she went to Emporia State Teachers College (as it was known at the time), where she graduated with a BS in Social Studies and Home Economics. She continued her education at K-State University where she received her master’s degree in Home Economics.
With her education completed she became a dedicated teacher in the KCK public school system, where she taught for 33 years before retiring in 2003.Justina was a victim of Alzheimer’s disease and had been fighting it since 2017. Her husband would like to thank the staff at The Willow Home & Care Facility along with the attending nurses and aides from Traditions Health & Hospice. Doniphan County Health and Home care was also involved in her care. Thanks to them also.
