Terri S. Modlin, 58, a cherished wife, mother, sister, and notable community leader, passed away on January 4, 2025.
She was born August 21, 1966 to Lee and Nina Schneider in Maryville, Missouri.
Terri is survived by her husband of nearly 30 years, Patrick Modlin, with whom she shared a beautiful life since they wed on April 22, 1995. Her loving legacy continues through her sons Jacob and Michael Modlin, as well as her brother, Kevin Schneider.
She was preceded in death by her parents, along with her brother Toby Schneider and her infant daughter Sydney Modlin.
A proud graduate from William Jewell College, Terri's professional life reflected her dedication to service and community. For 18 years, she made a significant impact in various roles throughout Cerner, before taking her expertise to Cathedral School of St. Joseph, where she served as operations manager for 14 years. Terri then channeled her entrepreneurial spirit into success, owning and managing Felix Street Gourmet and Room 108 for 5 years.
Terri's passion for invigorating the St. Joseph community shone brightly through her efforts to revitalize the downtown area. Her hard work and determination resulted in creating businesses that were cornerstones of downtown and community initiatives. Her dedication to Catholic education and local development was honored with the St. Scholastic Service Award in 2019.
Terri's contributions to the arts were no less significant. She was the recipient of the Organizational Achievement in the Arts award from the Allied Arts Council. Her leadership roles were numerous and impactful; as chair of the United Way campaigns in 2019 and 2020, she raised an astounding $5.1 million, demonstrating her extraordinary ability to motivate and inspire community support. Terri was further serving in her sixth year as Chair of the Board, influencing and making a difference in countless lives.
Previous roles reflected similar generosity and commitment: President of Allied Arts Council, Co-Chair of the Arts Fund, President of Mosaic Life Care Auxiliary, and active membership on the boards of Downtown First and the St. Joseph Chamber of Commerce. Her love for music and community was also evident in her participation with the St. Joseph Community Chorus and her volunteering in music ministry at Cathedral Parish.
