A 48-year-old St. Joseph woman has been found guilty of second-degree involuntary manslaughter in the fatal crash on an I-229 exit off downtown St. Joseph last May.

Katherine Deweese drove the wrong way onto I-229, leaving downtown St. Joseph, crashing into a motorcycle ridden by 33-year-old Ryan Coffman.

The crash occurred in the early morning hours of May 17th last year when Deweese, distracted during an argument with her boyfriend, drove the wrong way on the Interstate 229 exit ramp, crashing into the motorcycle. Coffman, ejected from the motorcycle, flew into the windshield of the SUV, suffering fatal injuries. He died hours later at the hospital.

Buchanan County Judge Dan Kellogg found Deweese guilty of involuntary manslaughter after an eight-hour trial.
