A 76-year-old Gower man died in a major crash on U.S. Route 169 between St. Joseph and Gower that backed up traffic for hours as emergency crews responded to the three-vehicle wreck.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol reports Steve Petrovick died at the scene, five miles south of St. Joseph.
The patrol states the accident occurred at 10:35 Wednesday morning when a small SUV driven by 22-year-old Joel Queener of Kansas City, traveling north on U.S. 169, drifted over the center line and into the path of a car driven by 71-year-old Welma Johnson of Savannah. The SUV side-swiped the driver’s side of Johnson’s vehicle. The impact sent the SUV into a counter-clockwise rotation which spun it into the driver’s side of Petrovick’s car, hitting it with its front bumper. The SUV overturned and came to rest on its wheels on the south side of Highway 169.
Johnson suffered minor injuries, according to the patrol, and was taken to Mosaic Life Care in St. Joseph.
