A St. Joseph man arrested on suspicion of drunk driving after a fatal crash on the Belt Highway in mid-January in which a pregnant woman was killed has pleaded guilty.

The Buchanan County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office reports 30-year-old Steven Ayala pleaded guilty to Driving While Intoxicated, causing the death of another. Ayala entered an “open” plea to the Class B felony which comes with a range of punishment of five to 15 years in prison.

St. Joseph police booked Ayala on a charge of driving drunk and causing the death of another after the accident in the 1500 block of South Belt Highway. Ayala crashed head-on into a SUV driven by Savannah Domann, who was pregnant. The crash killed Domann and her unborn child.

Circuit Judge Patt Robb has scheduled a sentencing hearing for January 23rd.
