A 61-year-old St. Joseph man died in a freak traffic accident in northeast Kansas.
The Kansas Highway Patrol reports David Richardson died after attempting to stop a runaway pickup. The patrol says the driverless pickup traveled out-of-control on a private driveway at 3789 U.S. 73 Highway. Richardson ran after the pickup, but it jackknifed and struck him.
The fatal accident occurred shortly before 2 o'clock Thursday afternoon near U.S. Highway 73 and 242nd Road.
Richardson was pronounced dead at the scene.
