After high school, he went to work for the railroad in LaPlata, Missouri and Fort Madison, Iowa as a telegraph operator for two years. He was drafted into the Army in 1953 and was stationed at Eielson Air Force Base, Fairbanks, Alaska, serving as an Early Warning Plotter. He was honorably discharged as a Corporal in 1955, was awarded the National Defense Service Medal and Good Conduct Medal.
Albert returned home to attend St. Joseph Junior College and continued his education at Northwest Missouri State University, graduating with a B.S. in Mathematics and Science, earning his teaching degree in 1960. On February 7, 1959, Albert married Annabelle Fisher at Saint Francis Xavier Catholic Church, St Joseph. In July 1964, they moved to their farm near Stewartsville, Missouri to raise their family. They were married over 63 years when Annabelle passed July 29, 2022.
Albert was a loving, responsible and selfless husband and father, always the peace keeper. As his family grew, he sometimes took on a 2nd job while also taking care of his farm. Albert was a member of Saint Joseph Catholic Church in Easton, Missouri and served many years on the Parish Council, Cemetery Board, and as a Mass Lector. As a member of Saint Francis Xavier Catholic Church he volunteered at the House of Bread and MIR House.
Albert enjoyed many interests including playing guitar while accompanying his father playing the fiddle. He later learned to also play the fiddle and other instruments. As a young man, he enjoyed hunting rabbits and pheasants with his dad and their beagles. On the farm, he raised cattle, sheep, and enjoyed his many beagle hounds. Albert loved telling stories of days gone by and family history. He was a fountain of information, having extensive knowledge and passion for his family ancestry, never forgetting names and events.
