An event in Elwood, Kansas will bring all types of boxing and fighting styles to the Elwood Baseball Field this Saturday for the first time.
The Elwood Parks and Recreation Department is bringing the Battle at the Ballpark to Elwood, Kansas this Saturday as a fun new event for residents also hoping to draw in more visitors to the city.
Activities Organizer Megan Shackleford says this is probably the biggest event that will be coming to Elwood in quite some time
"For nine years I have done the Elwood Activities, we always do a Halloween Parade, Santa Clause, and an Easter Egg Hunt, and this year I was like let's step it up, let's do some more stuff," Shackleford says on the KFEQmunnity show.
While most of the events are free, this one will not be, but tickets are reasonably priced. Shackleford says the goal of events like this is to get Elwod back on the map.
"We've got a great park, we've got a great community, and we just want to see people utilize it," Shackleford explains. "We want to see people in our town and have some fun and I thought this was a good way to do it."
Tickets start at $33 and can be purchased on nitrotickets.com. The promoter of the event has also worked out a deal where if you purchase a ticket and state you were referred to the event by Shackleford, some money will go back to Elwood.
The Battle at the Ballpark is on Saturday, July 25th at the Elwood Baseball Field. The fights will begin at 5pm, and Shackleford says viewers will see all kinds of fighting.
"You're going to have amateur boxing, professional boxing, we will have women's boxing, MMA, and some bareknuckle fights, and it will all just be in the middle of the ballfield," Shackleford says. "Last when I talked to the promoters, we were 20 plus fights for the night, so it's going to be a good mixture of fights for the night."
Viewers are also invited to view the weigh ins for the fight at the Pink Flamingo in Elwood on Friday, July 24th. There will be a parking lot party with an opportunity to meet some of the fighters for the event. Tickets will be available for purchase at the weigh ins and at the gate on the day of the event, aside from online.
