The Missouri Department of Transportation is getting prepared for another winter storm.
MoDOT Assistant Northwest District Engineer Martin Lyles says crews have been busy clearing roadways from Tuesday's storm to prepare for the next round of snow.
"Got a lot of the snow off as of yesterday afternoon," Lyles tells St. Joseph Post. "Now the crews are out there just trying to clean that up and trying to get a lot of the snow pushed further back in preparation for this next storm coming in."
Lyles adds that the last storm helped the department prepare its drivers, because they got out on the roads.
"Fortunately we haven't had a lot of snow up until this last part of December, the end of the year, and so this last one really got us a chance to get prepared even more and get some additional people trained."
MoDOT asks that motorists be prepared if they have to get out. Locally, snow is only expected, but road conditions will still be slick no matter what form the precipitation takes.
Lyles says if you don't have to go out, it's probably best to just stay home.
"Before they ever get out and about they need to look at the weather and see what the forecasts are going to be like," Lyles says. "Stay home, I guess, if you really don't need to be out there, so really double check and really question whether or not you have to be out in those type of conditions."
If you have to get out in the winter weather be sure to check the traveler information map.

Lyles adds that drivers should also bundle up to stay warm if they do get stranded. If you come upon a snowplow clearing the road, be sure to give it enough room to work.
