Highway 36 near downtown St. Joseph has reopened after a truck pulling a cattle trailer flipped onto its side, injuring the driver, killing some cattle, and sending other cattle loose in the city.
The extent of the injuries to the driver are unknown. He was taken to Mosaic Life Care in St. Joseph.
The accident occurred about twenty minutes till five o’clock this morning on Highway 36 near 22nd Street. The accident forced the shutdown of 36 from 22nd Street to Interstate 229 this morning as emergency crews responded to assist the driver and St. Joseph police officers and members of the public attempted to round up the stray cattle. About 50 head got loose.
Both westbound and eastbound lanes of Highway 36 were closed to traffic as crews helped clear the wreck and the roadway and clean up the mess.
