Local COVID-19 hospitalizations continue moderating trend

Hospitalizations for the coronavirus continue to moderate, though Mosaic Life Care reports a slight uptick this morning.

Mosaic reports it is treating 32 COVID-19 patients in its system this morning; 31 in St. Joseph and one in Albany. Sunday, Mosaic reported 27 total COVID-19 patients in its system, with 25 in St. Joseph and two in Maryville.

Totals have dropped significantly since late November when Mosaic reported a total of 94 COVID-19 patients in its system. The totals have even fallen since the beginning of January. Mosaic reported treating a total of 86 patients on the 5th of January. Totals began falling afterward, dropping into the 50s for a couple of weeks, before dropping to 25 patients within the entire system on the 26th.

The St. Joseph Health Department reported on Friday 34 new cases of the coronavirus in Buchanan County and an additional death. A woman in her 50s died of a coronavirus-related illness, bringing the Buchanan County death toll to 154. Buchanan County has had a total of 9,687 cases since the pandemic began.

Andrew County health officials report one new death related to COVID-19, bringing its total of 19. Andrew County records 1,920 total cases since the pandemic began.

Doniphan County, Kansas reports a total of 894 cases.

Missouri health officials report the state has had 459,597 total cases, resulting in 6,748 deaths.

In Kansas, health officials have recorded 274,685 total cases and 3,779 deaths.
