Steven D. Groshong, 67, a cherished husband, brother, uncle, and a beacon in the emergency services community, passed away on November 24, 2024, in Stewartsville, Missouri. Born on August 25, 1957, in St. Joseph, Missouri, his journey through life was marked by dedication, compassion, and an unwavering commitment to those he served.
He was born August 25, 1957 to Marion F. and Dorris L. (Strong) Groshong in St. Joseph, Missouri.
Steven married Margaret Audrey Macon on June 18, 1998. She survives of the home.
Professionally, Steven was a paragon of healthcare and public service. His tenure as a nationally registered paramedic for over 35 years featured unwavering service to the community, culminating with his role as the Director of Operations for Buchanan County EMS. He was integral to the department's establishment in 2014, ensuring quality care for all its recipients. A dedicated reserve officer since 1981, Steven's work with the Sheriff’s Department Drug Strike Force was exemplary, complemented by his time as a career paramedic with both Tri-County and MAST.
Steven's enthusiasm extended beyond his work into varied interests. An avid competition shooter, he was a member of the NRA Club, Second Amendment rights groups, and numerous other organizations including MARC, USPSA, ICOR, IDPA, and RHSOC. His passion for community safety and preparedness led him to serve on multiple boards, including Homeland Security, Red Cross, and Buchanan County Emergency Management.
He was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Russell Euler and Sandy Euler; brother-in-law, Russell Meyrick; and father-in-law, William Macon.
Survivors include his wife of 26 years; sister, Linda Duncan; sisters-in-law, Mary Starner (Scott) and Pam Euler; mother-in-law, Pauline Macon; special niece, Serena Mitchell (Miles) and her children, Miley and Myra; several other nieces and nephews; and his EMS and Sheriff’s Department family, will deeply miss his presence.
Farewell Services and Public Livestream 1:00 P.M. Monday, Word of Life Church. Interment Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will gather with friends 1:00 to 4:00 P.M. Sunday, Meierhoffer Funeral Home & Crematory.
