The annual Soles For Christ shoe distribution event is less than two weeks away, and as the event draws closer, AFL-CIO Community Services remains in desperate need of shoe donations and volunteers for the event.
Since its inception in 2003, the program has distributed 19,949 pairs of shoes. Last year, the Soles For Christ program distributed 1,119 pairs of shoes, worth $33,570. After decreases during the COVID-19 pandemic participation numbers in the program are getting closer to the annual average 1,100 to 1,200 children served. Community members are being asked to donate new tennis shoes for the event to be given away to those children in need. Toddler sizes 5 to 10, youth sizes 11 to 6 and all adult sizes are recommended.
Volunteers are also needed for the event for a variety of positions. To volunteer or donate shoes you can go to the AFL-CIO Community Services offices at 1203 N 6th Street St. Joseph, MO
