Peggy Jean Reineke (Murdock) of Platte City, MO passed away peacefully January 6th, 2026 at the Aspire Living and Rehab facility.

Peggy was born on September 1, 1936 to James Wesley Murdock and Leona Katherine Murdock (Lamar). Born in Leavenworth KS, she lived in Weston, MO until she was 3 years old on a farm, then the family moved to Camden Point Mo. She went to Camden Point School until they consolidated with North Platte, and she graduated from North Platte High School in May of 1954.

Peggy married Walter Kenneth “Dink” Reineke on June 27, 1954, on a very hot day, with no air conditioning, the candles started to droop over and the icing on the cake started to melt. They built a home just outside of Platte City on 92 Hwy and lived there until Dink’s passing in 2000. In 2001, Peggy moved to a condo across from the post office in Platte City. Several years later she and Sheri decided to build and move into a house together in the Summit Way addition, just outside of Platte City. She started working at the welfare office in September of 1954. She had to wait until she turned 18 to start work. She left work in 1964 after Sheri was born, to stay home with both Tim and Sheri. She started working again in the fall of 1969 at the Platte County Health Department. She left the Health Department after working there 29 years. She then went to work for the Platte City Police Department as an administrative assistant to the police chief and clerk. What began as a part-time job for Peggy eventually grew into an almost full-time position, which she held for 19 years.

Peggy was very active in her church. She joined the Christian Church of Camden Point, then moved to the First Baptist Church of Platte City. She taught children's Sunday School classes 5 & 6 years old, as well as playing piano for those classes. She also worked in the nursery, and volunteered for many other activities. Peggy, Dink and Sheri sang in the church choirs on Sundays, along with Christmas and Easter cantatas. She also volunteered to help with Sheri’s Girl Scout troops, was a camp leader and was a Senior Girl Scout leader. She sang in her high school choir and played basketball.

After she graduated high school, she became part of a group of ladies that played basketball, then they switched to bowling. After the women were all married, working, starting to have children and becoming too busy with their families, this group decided to meet less frequently. They became known as the “Do-Nothing Club”. They would get together once a month to visit, eat and share family news. Peggy and Dink took great pride in their home and families. They enjoyed hosting many parties for their family and friends for holidays and birthdays.

Their best friends were Mildred and Charles Knighton. They enjoyed many activities together, including following their children’s sports teams, school events, both in high school and college. They also enjoyed traveling together to Las Vegas, L.A., San Francisco, and their favorite vacation spot Branson, MO. Whether it was going to school events, a show, shopping, working at the Platte County Fair, or just working on the latest household project the 4 of them were usually found together on the weekends. They also enjoyed following the Black Label Band that Sheri played and sang in. They traveled to see the group whenever they were able for over 10 years. The band enjoyed playing festivals and family events and gave Peggy and Dink engraved badges to get in places. Peggy was a roadie and Dink was the chief mechanic, which they both earned. Peggy had great pride in her community and enjoyed socializing with everyone. She enjoyed reading, using the computer, planting and taking care of her flowers. She will be greatly missed by Sheri, family and many friends. She loved everyone.

Peggy was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 46 years Dink, her son Tim, her daughter Gina Kay. Also preceding her death are brother-in-law Irvin “Bud” and his wife Elsie Reineke, brother-in-law James “Jim” Reineke. Peggy is survived by daughter Sheri Reineke, brothers-in-law David Reineke (Jan), Danny Reineke (Donna), sister-in-law Ida Cox (Craig). She is also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins from the Reineke, Murdock and Lamar families.

Services will be held January 17th, 2026 at the First Baptist Church of Platte City. The visitation will be at 10am and the service to follow at 11:00am. In lieu of followers contributions may be made to “The Canto Chorale” or “Platte City Friends of Arts” designated Platte City Community Band or in memory of Peggy Reineke.
