A couple of semi tractor-trailer accidents overnight backed up traffic on Interstate 29 south of St. Joseph for hours during rush hour this morning.

The accidents were related.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol reports 40-year-old Mulin Celestin of Miami, Florida lost control of his semi driving north on I-29. The truck overturned, struck the cable barrier in the median of the interstate, and spilled batteries onto the median. The accident occurred at the 40.8 mile marker. Celestin suffered minor injuries.

About a half hour later, another semi tractor-trailer rear-ended a semi that had parked on the inside shoulder of I-29 due to the initial accident. The patrol reports 62-year-old Norris Davis of Grandview suffered serious injuries in the wreck and has been hospitalized in St. Joseph. The patrol states Davis was driving north on I-29 when he ran into the back of the parked semi. The driver of that truck, 39-year-old Sean Wilson, was not injured.
