Betty S. Key, 82, St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Monday, March 20, 2023.
She was born on March 20, 1941, to John and Pearl (Le Roy) Lucas in Jonesboro, Arkansas. On June 14, 1959, she was united in marriage to William H. Key. Together, they served as Salvation Army Officers in the southern territory for many years.
She was a dedicated member of The Salvation Army in Kansas City, Kansas for several years and loved being a part of the church. She enjoyed attending the New Beginnings group meetings. After moving to St. Joseph, she became involved in the Women’s Ministries group.
Betty enjoyed camping trips with her family, fishing, doing puzzles, and cheering on her favorite sports teams: the Kansas City Chiefs, the Kansas City Royals and the KU Jayhawks.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her brother, James “Jimmy” Lucas, and grandson, Brian Key.
Survivors include her children, Major Ronald Key (Major Laura) of St. Joseph, MO; Cheryl Key Peirce (Donald) of Springtown, TX; and John Key of Fort Wayne, IN; brother, George “Sonny” Lucas of Hot Springs, AR, 9 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-grandchild, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Farewell Services and Public Livestream 1:00 P.M. Saturday, The Salvation Army. Inurnment Leavenworth National Cemetery at a later date. The family will gather with friends 12:00 to 1:00 P.M. Saturday, The Salvation Army.
