A 35-second shot clock has been approved by KSHSAA’s Executive Board on an experimental basis for the 2024-25 basketball season.
Approval from the Executive Board happened during a meeting Wednesday night.
“All KSHSAA member schools will have the option to utilize the shot clock for all home boys and girls basketball games at the varsity level,” a press release from KSHSAA said.
The trial will only occur during the regular season, and any school choosing to participate in the trial must do so for every boys and girls varsity game. The trial period is only for varsity games.
Any school opting into the trial will be required to fill out a short survey after each game. The survey will record the game’s score, number of shot clock violations, number of officials' conferences to discuss shot clock issues, any noted problems and other information about how the shot clock impacted the game’s outcome.
The shot clock will not be used during the state tournament.
