The Kansas City Royals have decided to transfer their television media rights to the MLB instead of continuing with Main Street Sports, the company that owns FanDuel Sports Kansas City.
The decision comes amid reports that Main Street Sports may file for bankruptcy. Earlier in the offseason, all nine Major League Baseball teams under the portfolio, which includes the Atlanta Braves, Cincinnati Reds, Detroit Tigers, Royals, Los Angeles Angels, Miami Marlins, Milwaukee Brewers, St. Louis Cardinals and Tampa Bay Rays, opted to terminate their original deals with Main Street.
Royals games will still be available on television under a new banner, likely called "Royals.TV", with a $19.99 direct-to-consumer streaming option. MLB-provided games typically have no blackout restrictions, except for national broadcast simulcasts, and subscribers to MLB.tv may access their local team with a possible upcharge.
Additionally, some Royals games will air on free, over-the-air TV, including the Opening Day game against the Braves on KCTV 5 in Kansas City. All Royals games during the regular season, as well as select Spring Training games, will also be carried on KFEQ (680AM/95.3FM).
