Clean Sweep has come to St. Joseph.

Clean Sweep began Wednesday and runs through the 7th, allowing St. Joseph residents to dump unwanted items at the landfill for free.

Fourth District Councilmember, Michael Grimm, says Clean Sweep helps with the city council goal of beautifying St. Joseph.

“From out standpoint, it helps clean up the city,” Grimm tells KFEQmmunity. “This council’s been big on trying to work on things to clean up the city and this just helps us along if you get rid of all that old lumber that you’ve had laying outside your house.”

Residents can dump only six tires. Yard waste needs to be separate from trash. Toxic or hazardous waste will not be accepted. Only automobiles, pickups, and two-wheel trailers may be used. Just one vehicle per IC is allowed at a time. No company vehicles are allowed.

Grimm says it is no surprise that a recent survey of city residents ranked code enforcement and cleaning up the city as their top priority.

“And it always is, you know,” according to Grimm. “They do this survey maybe once every couple of years and I’ve seen it for the last 15 years and it’s always been in the top five; is cleaning up our city.”

Residents should notify the gate attendant at the landfill they’re using the Clean Sweep program and must present a St. Joseph personal property tax receipt and photo ID.

The city landfill, located at 9431 South East 50th Road, is open Monday through Friday 7am to 4:30pm; 7am to 2pm on Saturday.
