&nbsp;On Friday,&nbsp; the Patee House Museum received a new piece of history as a pair of traditional Chinese guardian lions were installed at the entrance to the Japanese Tea House.

Dating back to China’s Han Dynasty, the ornamental lions, commonly known as “Fu Dogs,” traditionally stand in pairs at the entrances of temples, palaces, and other important places.&nbsp; Also known as “Guardians at the Gate,” they symbolize strength, authority, protection, and the balance of yin and yang.&nbsp; The male rests his paw upon a ball, symbolizing authority and protection, while the female rests her paw upon a cub, representing nurturing and care.&nbsp; Together, they symbolically protect both the place and those within it.

The Fu Dogs were donated to Patee House Museum by Chuck and Kellie Hughes and now stand guard at the Tea House.
