As the establishment of a data center in St. Joseph remains a topic of contention, the St. Joseph City Council will vote Monday on establishing a citizen's advisory committee on data centers.
During the July 20th City Council meeting, District Four Councilmember Russell Moore proposed the creation of the committee, which would review information related to data centers and provide feedback and recommendations to the Planning Commission and the City Council on development considerations for data centers. Moore requested a resolution to establish the committee, which will be voted on during Monday's City Council meeting.
The committee would be made up of a committee member, appointed by each Councilmember, along with St. Joseph City Manager Mike Schumacher, Mayor Larry Miller, and one Councilmember chosen to serve as a liason for the committee. Appointments will be made following the resolution. The committee would be dissolved on June 30th, 2027, unless dissolved sooner, or extended up to an additional six months by resolution of the City Council.
Along with the vote on the new committe, City Council members will vote on an ordinance to upgrade cameras at the Patee Market among other issues. The Council meeting on Monday can be live streamed on the city's website.
