Phyllis Horton October 15, 1964-May 14, 2025

Phyllis Jean Horton 60, of St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Wednesday, May 14, 2025 in a St. Joseph, MO hospital. She was born October 15, 1964 in St. Joseph, MO, daughter of the late Shirley and Finley Mason. She graduated from Hosea Elementary, Benton High School, and attended Missouri Western State University. She married Robert Eugene Horton II on December 29, 1989, he preceded her in death on October 2, 2022.

Phyllis was known as the "Cookie Lady" by the Benton Basketball, Volleyball, and Baseball teams, as she would make and bring cookies to many of their home games. Phyllis attended the King Hill Baptist Church as a child, then the East Side Baptist Church in her college years, then the Bible Baptist Temple, now known as Riverside Baptist after Mason was born. She helped in the Super Class, and she enjoyed working in the nursery, she also helped with the Reformers UNAM, and moved onto Refiners Fire, an addiction recovery program in the Church. Phyllis was a Head Start volunteer for several years, and was voted Head Start Parent of the Year, and was honored in San Francisco, CA as 1 of the top 12 in the United States.

Phyllis was preceded in death by husband, Robert Eugene Horton II, her parents, son, Robert "Bobby" Horton III, brother, Lloyd Mason, paternal grandparents, Lloyd Aaron Mason & Nellie Marie Eirls, and maternal grandparents; Clarence Veigh & Mary Katherine Hargrave. Survivors include: son, Findley Mason Horton of the home, sisters; Katherine McMullen and Cindy (Rick) Gove of St. Joseph, MO, and her mother and father in law, Patricia and Robert Horton I, of St. Joseph, MO. Services are pending. Memorials are requested to the Phyllis Horton Memorial Fund in care of the Rupp Funeral Home.
