Gary E. Bowland, 69. of Savannah, MO passed away Saturday, March 23, 2024, at KU Medical Center in Kansas City with the love of his family surrounding him. He was born in St. Joseph, MO on January 28, 1955, to Lowell & Betty (Albertson) Bowland. He married his high school sweetheart, Jennifer Johnson, on August 17, 1973, in St. Joseph, MO and she survives of the home.
Gary always looked forward to going hunting with his wife, brother, friends, grandkids, and his best friend Leonard who are now telling deer camp stories together again. Gary enjoyed being outside and tinkering in the garage, always making and fixing things. He was always willing to do anything for anyone and was our go to person for everything the family needed. Over the years, he spent a lot of time working on cars and loved restoring tractors. One of his favorite past times was to go camping with his family. He loved watching and supporting his grandkids in their activities and sports as they grew up. Since retiring, he enjoyed relaxing in his chair and watching the Kansas City Chiefs. Gary will be remembered for his love, orneriness, and giving the best hugs.
Survivors include his children, Christina (John) Sturm of Savannah, Jackie (Ben Baldwin) Butler of St. Joseph, and Jamie (Doug) Nigh of Savannah; grandchildren, Hayley (Bryson Waitkoss) Butler, Taylor (Mason) Smith, Kalyn (Emryk Ring) Sturm, and Cody Nigh; siblings, Janice Bowland of Savannah, Joyce Bird of St. Joseph, Donna Jean Peterson of Savannah, Judy Myers of St. Joseph, and Jerald (Lori Sticken) Bowland of Savannah; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and in-laws, Harry and Effie Johnson.
Visitation and family receiving hours will be 6:00pm-8:00pm Wednesday, March 27, 2024, at Breit-Hawkins Funeral Home, Savannah, MO. Funeral Services will be 10:00am Thursday, March 28, 2024, at Breit-Hawkins Funeral Home. Burial will follow the services at Savannah Cemetery in Savannah, MO.
