Dr. Larry Lindsey, 79, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and pastor, passed away Thursday, June 22, 2023.
He was born on September 8, 1943, to Joseph and Mary (Nelson) Lindsey in Columbus, Ohio.
Dr. Larry Lindsey enlisted in the Army Reserves in 1961 after graduating high school and was stationed in Fort Knox, Kentucky. On December 8, 1962, he was united in marriage to Marcia Ann Zartman. They celebrated 60 years of marriage in 2022.
Larry worked for Great American Insurance in Columbus for 12 years. Larry and his wife surrendered to ministry in 1975 and moved their family to Springfield, Missouri where he graduated from Baptist Bible College with his bachelor’s degree in theology in 1978. Upon graduation, he and his family moved to St. Joseph, Missouri to pastor at the Eastside Baptist Church, where he served for 45 years. Under his direction, Eastside Baptist Academy and Thank Heaven Daycare were founded. In 2000, Larry graduated from Louisiana Baptist University with his doctorate in biblical studies.
He was a man devoted to his family, telling others about the Lord Jesus Christ’s saving grace. Along with preaching about the gospel he also loved to sing gospel music as he played the piano. He was a loving husband, caring father and faithful friend. He had a larger-than-life personality with a unique laugh that made you smile.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Mary Lindsey, and his brother, Ken Lindsey.
Survivors include his wife, Marcia; children, David and Timothy (Theresa) Lindsey; granddaughters, Lauren Smith (Bronson) and Victoria Lindsey; great granddaughter, Parker Grace; sister-in-law, Joyce Sholly (Duane); and nephews, Greg (Sue), Mark (Ronda) and Jeff.
Farewell Services 1:00 P.M. Wednesday, Eastside Baptist Church. Interment Mount Auburn Cemetery. The family will gather with friends one hour prior to the service.
