Nathan Eugene Terry, age 91, was born April 4th, 1933 in Odessa, MO., the son of Cyrus Eugene Terry and Willa Mae Terry (Hunt).
Nathan passed away peacefully July 8, 2024, while living in the Pleasant Valley Manor Care Center with his wife Della, of 70 years, and also cared for by his children; daughters Diana Delores Odehnal and Linda Joy Burlison, and son Daniel Eugene Terry.
In 1951, Nathan graduated from High School in Mound City, MO, where the family had moved when he was 5 years old. During this time, he began developing his love of country music, and formed his first band the “Squaw Creek Ramblers”.
In 1953, Nathan was drafted and served in the U.S. Army, based at Fort Bliss, and later at White Sands, Arizona as part of a guided missile crew. He was honorably discharged in 1955. During his military service on leave, he met Della Farr at the Kansas City Baptist Temple, and they married on July 24, 1954. After his discharge in 1955, they briefly lived in Kansas City, before leaving for Omaha – where Nathan attended Grace Bible Institute. He graduated in 1960 with his B.S. in Theology. After moving back to the Kansas City area, Nathan worked at various jobs until he began working for the U.S. Post Office in 1961 – until he retired 31 years later.
Nathan was a Christian, and deeply devoted to Bible truth. Nathan’s early years led him to passions with his music and fishing. He played guitar and ‘jammed’ with his friends as much as possible. He had a true love of bluegrass, and Country Western, and even eventually some pop and rock. And when weather allowed, Nathan was drawn to the many rivers and streams. He was especially at home wading in streams at night, with a ball of BJ on his hook, and coming home with a big mess of catfish.
Nathan leaves behind his wife Della Terry, his three children; Daniel Terry, Linda Joy Burlison, and Diana Odehnal, and 4 grandchildren; Amanda Bauman, Christopher Odehnal, Emily Terry, Jackson Burlison, and 6 great grandchildren.
A Graveside service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, July 12, 2024, at the Old School Presbyterian Cemetery in Stewartsville, MO. Services have been entrusted to Turner Family Funeral Home of Stewartsville.
