Michael J. Green 1945 - 2024

Michael J. Green, 79, Everest, Kansas, died Thursday, March 7, 2024, at the University of Kansas Medical Center in Kansas City, Kansas. 

Funeral Services will be Wednesday, March 13, 2024, at 1:00 P.M. in the chapel of the Arensberg-Pruett Funeral Home, with Pastor, Marty Reed, officiating. Visitation with the family will be Tuesday, March 12th from 5:30 until 7:00 P.M. at the funeral home. Memorial contributions are suggested to Disabled American Veterans and may be left in care of the funeral home. 

Mike was born March 1, 1945, in Paris Island, South Carolina, the son of Richard J. Green and Cleo Beatrice (Winchel) Green. Mike was raised by his mother and Ray Morrison. He attended school in Atchison, then moved to Texas during high school and graduated from Bell High School in Euless, Texas.

Following graduation Mike was drafted into the United States Army serving in Vietnam from 1969 until his honorable discharge in 1971. After a year out of the service he decided to reenlist, this time in the Air Force serving from October 1972 until his honorable discharge in April 1975. 

He and Sheri E. Morris were united in marriage on June 21, 1980, at the First Christian Church in Atchison, Kansas. She preceded him in death on May 17, 2002.

Mike was employed with Blish Mize for 20 years as a stocker. He had many hobbies, including playing cards, fishing and going to the casino. When Mike went to the casino, he didn’t mind gaming but he truly enjoyed the social aspect of meeting new people. Mike had a passion for cars, including classic cars, attending drag races and in his younger years was a great mechanic. He was a fan of the Chiefs, Royals and Kansas Jayhawks. Mike would often read old western books and watch old westerns on tv. He and Sheri would go to concerts, they were fans of 50s and 60s country music. Mike loved his family and always enjoyed spoiling his nieces and nephews. 

Survivors include, a sister, Trudy (John) Crosswhite, Everest, KS, a brother, Chip (Janene) Morrison, Atchison, KS, and a special friend Mandy Beagle and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and sisters, Susan Hungerford and Vonnie Morrison, brothers, Robert Bullard, Gary Morrison, Carey Morrison.
