Donna Mae Heck, 80, Maitland, Missouri, passed away Thursday, December 19, 2024.
She was born April 11, 1944 in St. Joseph, Missouri to Donald and Dorothy (Hillen) Dunn. Donna grew up in St. Joseph and graduated from Lafayette High School. She then attended beauty school and earned her beautician’s license.
Donna married Roger E. Heck on March 23, 1963. He survives of the home.
She worked as a bank teller for 10 years, and also was a seamstress, starting out with clothes and “graduating” to quilting, which became her passion. She made heirloom quilts for all of the family and was featured in newspaper stories about her quilts.
Genealogy was also a passion of hers. She would research burial sites for ancestors, then have the grandchildren help find them in the cemeteries. Her love of history led to membership in the Holt County Historical Society and DAR as well.
Donna loved and served the Lord as a longtime member of the Burr Oak Methodist Church in Skidmore.
Most of all, Donna was a loving farm wife, mother and grandmother, who leaves behind a tapestry of love and history for her family to treasure.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Survivors include her husband of 61 years, Roger; daughters, Rema Jenkins (Martin) and Dawn Huntsman (Billy); grandchildren, Zachory Jenkins (Samantha), Christopher Jenkins, and Nicholas Jenkins (Sonya); great-grandchildren, Isaac and Elijah; other extended family members and friends; and numerous beloved cats.
