KHP IDs victims in violent, Brown County crash

BROWN COUNTY—Law enforcement authorities investigating a fatal July 24 crash have identified the victims.

The Kansas Highway Patrol reported a 2003 Chevy Tahoe driven by Oliverio  Cucul Pop, 24, Houston, Texas, was southbound on Prairie Road near 240th Street four miles east of Hiawatha just before 7p.m.

The SUV traveled off the road into the west ditch, continued southbound, jumped a creek, struck an embankment, continued southbound in a ditch, struck a wooden post and rolled on its top in a field.

Pop was pronounced dead at the scene and was transported to Chapel Oaks Funeral Home. EMS transported a passenger Esteban Xol, 53, Davis Junction, Illinois, to the hospital in Hiawatha. 

They were not wearing seat belts, according to the KHP.

The Kansas Highway Patrol reported a vehicle was southbound on Prairie Road near 240th Street four miles east of Hiawatha.

The vehicle traveled off the road into the west ditch, continued southbound, jumped a creek, struck an embankment, continued southbound in a ditch, struck a wooden post and rolled on its top in a field.

Authorities did not release additional details Sunday or early Monday.
