Steven D. Groshong 1957 - 2024

Updated - Steve D. Groshong, lovingly known as “Dr. Fong,” age 67, a devoted husband to Margaret (Macon) Groshong, a cherished uncle, a steadfast friend, and a pillar in the emergency services community, passed away on November 24, 2024, in Stewartsville, Missouri. Born on August 25, 1957, in St. Joseph, Missouri, to Marion F. and Dorris L (Strong) Groshong.

Professionally, Steve was a groundbreaker and trailblazer in public safety and health care. He was a dedicated Reserve Sargent with the Buchanan County Sheriff’s Department beginning in 1981, where he worked as a paramedic on the Drug Strike Force team. During his 35 years as a nationally registered paramedic, he served with Tri-County Ambulance, MAST Ambulance, Heartland Paramedics, and for the last 10 years as the Buchanan County EMS Director of Operations.

He was integral to the department's establishment in 2014, where he prioritized the needs of each patient.

Steve’s life was defined by his dedication to both his work and his passions. His enthusiasm extended far beyond his career, touching every aspect of his life. He was an avid competition shooter, demonstrating skill and dedication through his membership in the NRA Club, Second Amendment rights groups, and numerous other organizations, including MARC, USPSA, ICOR, IDPA, and RHSOC. His passion for safety and preparedness was equally evident in his service to the community. Steve proudly served on various boards, including those of Homeland Security, the Red Cross, and Buchanan County Emergency Management. His contributions to these organizations reflected his unwavering commitment to the safety and well-being of others.

He was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Russell Euler and Sandy Euler; brother-in-law, Russell Meyrick; and father-in-law, William Macon.

Survivors of the home include his soulmate and wife of 26 years and his dog Max; sister, Linda Duncan; sisters-in-law, Mary Starner (Scott) and Pam Euler; mother-in-law, Pauline Macon; special niece, Serena Mitchell (Miles) and her children, Miley and Myra; several other nieces and nephews; and his EMS and Sheriff’s Department family, will deeply miss his presence.

Farewell Services and Public Safety Honors with Livestream 1:00 P.M. Monday, Word of Life Church. Interment Memorial Park Cemetery.

The family will gather with friends 1:00 to 4:00 P.M. Sunday, Meierhoffer Funeral Home & Crematory.
