The Center for Workforce Development at Missouri Western State University is hosting a workshop designed to enhance people's knowledge about finances.

Director Rebecca Lobina says the course is designed for team leaders, managers, or supervisors that might be newer to budgeting and putting together budgets

"If they just want to understand financials and understand the financial process, but it goes into way more than just budgeting,” Lobina says on the KFEQmunnity show. “A lot of these folks that are out there who are team leads and supervisors or new managers, they may not necessarily come from a background that included accounting or financing, or anything along those lines right?”

The Financials for the Non Financial Leader workshop is designed for business owners as well as team leaders, managers, and supervisors to learn more about how a business budget works and is put together.

Lobina says depending on where a participant works within a business, the course can be made specific to that person's department.

"Like ok so you’re out on the floor in production, you’re a team lead great, so when you guys' purchase inventory and inventory is on the floor, and then we go over ok where would you see inventory on financial statements?” Lobina explains. “And which different financial statements would you find that on, and what is a work in progress and how does that effect your financial position as a company?”

Lobina says the workshop is presented in four courses, and unlike some courses through the center, this one you must attend all four

“It is not an option, you need to come to all four, because each one builds on the one before that, now we do review what was learned in the previous session because that helps with the learning objectives, right? To really beat it into the people if you will, to get it so they understand it you repeat, repeat, repeat,” Lobina says. “However, this engages people on a different level, because we utlitize all real world numbr

Registration for all four courses is 949 dollars. You can register on Missouri Western DOT edu SLASH workforce. Classes will be held at the Houlne Center for Convergent Technology Center every Friday in April.
