William Robert "Bob" Courtney 1933 - 2024

Bob Courtney passed away on August 10, 2024, in Kansas City, Missouri at the age of 90.

He was born on October 26, 1933, to Robert and Mary (Powell) Courtney, in Saint Joseph, Missouri and graduated from Lafayette High School.

Bob was a dedicated professional and loving family man, who passed away, leaving behind a legacy of hard work and devotion. He began his career at St. Joseph Light and Power before becoming the owner and operator of Industrial Electric Heating Company, where his expertise and leadership were well respected.

Bob was married to Marylon Ward, with whom he shared a life filled with love, joy and partnership. Together, they raised two sons, Robert Mark Courtney and Bill Courtney. He was a beloved member of Northland Cathedral Church. As a proud veteran, Bob served in the U.S. Air Force and Air National Guard, exemplifying his commitment to his country. Bob had a deep love for the ocean and the skies, often finding peace in both flying and spending time by the water. He enjoyed hanging out at the Coves pool and playing tennis/racquetball with his friends. Bob was known for his energetic spirit, sense of humor, and passion for life. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

He is preceded in death by his parents; brother, Jimmy Courtney; and sister, Eleanor Reece.

Survivors include his wife, Marylon (Ward) Courtney; his two children, Robert Mark Courtney (Sandi), and Bill Courtney (Kristine); grandchildren, Matthew Courtney, Michael Courtney, Christa Bergerhofer, Brandon Courtney and Anna Courtney; nine great-grandchildren; sisters, Flo Ann Brown and Mary Kay Halloran.

A celebration memorial service will be held at 10:00 A.M. Saturday, August 24, at Northland Cathedral Church in Kansas City, Missouri. A Private family graveside will be held at Memorial Park Cemetery.
